Lionel Messi explains his super hero celebrations, revealing when and why he does it.

Inter Miami Superstar Lionel Messi has now revealed the reason behind his choice to celebrate goals superhero-style and the conditions that have to be met for it to happen.

The 36-year-old Argentinian is now enjoying his football at Inter Miami in the MLS after a self-admittedly difficult period at Paris Saint-Germain, and visibly so, as he is seen enjoying goals and victories with more vim.

He has now led the Miami-based club into the final of the Leagues Cup with his heroic performances and, at times, superhero-themed celebrations to go with them.

The former Barcelona man, who has, in his career spanning over 15 years, been mostly vanilla with his goal celebrations, shocked the football fanbase when he stretched his hand Thor-style to celebrate a goal in the Leagues Cup against Atlanta United.

It was the turn of the Wakandan, Black Panther, next, as in another game in the same competition against Orlando City, the father of three crossed his arms over his chest in traditional Wakandan style.

We next saw him celebrating in this unique way after scoring in Inter Miami’s 4-0 win over Charlotte FC. The World Cup winner imitated the Marvel character Spider-Man’s web-shooting gesture after his brace in the game.

Messi explains his celebrations

As many have suggested, knowing the forward is a family man, the celebrations are directed towards his children. Messi has now confirmed those sentiments, revealing in a recent press conference that he is doing it for his kids.

He, however, revealed a condition that must be met for him to pull off a superhero celebration, saying it had to be a home game in which his kids are present so he can share the moment with them.

“My three kids are still on vacation and haven't started school yet, so every night we watch superhero movies,” Messi said, per Bleacher Report.

“They came up with the idea and told me that whenever I have a game and score a goal, I do a superhero celebration.

“But I only do them for home games, when the kids are here, near me, so we can share those moments.”

The three games in which we have seen Messi celebrate in this manner have all been matches at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium.
