The forward was involved in France’s three goals against Luxembourg to eclipse both Les Blues icons.

Kylian Mbappe was in outstanding form for France on Wednesday in their comfortable 3-0 success over Luxembourg at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

France vs Luxembourg

Didier Deschamps’ men faced their opponents in Metz in the first of two tune-up games in the lead-up to this summer’s Euro 2024 finals to be held in Germany.

Mbappe was involved in every goal for Les Blues, setting up Randal Kolo Muani's opening strike two minutes before the interlude, assisting Jonathan Clauss in the 70th minute before finding the back of the net with five minutes of the 90 remaining.

The recently announced Real Madrid signing’s two assists took him one ahead of France football legends and World Cup and European Championship winners Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry, with his 27 assists for Les Blues eclipsing both’s 26.

Only Antoine Griezmann’s 30 assists for France is superior to Mbappe’s 27, and the national team captain could surpass the Atletico Madrid man sooner rather than later.

What comes next for Mbappe?

While Mbappe may have to wait to be unveiled at Real Madrid, the France captain does not have to wait much longer to lead Les Blues in tournament football, with one of the competition’s favourites begging their Euro 2024 campaign against Austria on June 17.

France then play the Netherlands on June 21 before facing Poland four days later.
