Mykhailo Mudryk struggled once more during Chelsea's goalless draw at Bournemouth, and Mauricio Pochettino claims the Ukrainian needs to "understand the game better."

Since joining Chelsea in January on an eight-and-a-half-year deal from Shakhtar Donetsk, the winger has made 21 appearances without scoring.

In the 63rd minute at the Vitality Stadium, he was replaced by Cole Palmer, but Chelsea failed to force a goal in another disappointing outcome.

Mudryk is still catching up with Premier League standards, according to Pochettino after the draw against Bournemouth.

Pochettino on Mudryk

Mauricio Pochettino has defended Mykhailo Mudryk after the Ukrainian had a poor game against Bournemouth.

The Chelsea manager told Sky Sports as reported by Daily Mail, “He is improving. He still needs to learn; the Premier League is very fast and the speed of the game is so fast.

“I think it's about understanding the game better, trying to be more connected sometimes with the team.

“We need to give the time and the tools to improve during the season.”

Chelsea are currently in 14th place in the standings with just five points from their first five games as their expensively assembled players struggle to deliver.

They have only managed five goals in the Premier League thus far, which is their lowest output after five games in a post-1992 season since they also only scored five in 1995-96.

The team's terrible performance continues despite spending more than £1 billion on new players since Todd Boehly took over the club last year.
