Harambee Starlets striker Marjolene Nekesa ranks among global football's elite female scorers.

Kenya international Marjolene Nekesa has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with, finishing 2023 as the 22nd top female goalscorer globally, according to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

The 25-year-old dynamo showcased her goal-scoring prowess by netting an impressive total of 26 goals for both Czech Republic side Slavia Prague and the Harambee Starlets.

Nekesa's remarkable achievement places her as the fifth-highest scorer continentally, with a phenomenal tally of 19 goals in the Czech League, three in the Czech National Cup, three in the Czech Women's FA Cup, and an additional goal for the Kenya national team.

Her journey to becoming a standout goal scorer started when she joined the eight-time Czech League champions as a free agent, following a stellar campaign with Belarusian side FC Minsk.

While Nekesa's accomplishments shine brightly, she is not alone in making waves in women's football.

Malawi's Temwa Chawinga emerged as the top female goalscorer of 2023, surpassing renowned names like Australia's Sam Kerr and Germany's Alexandra Popp.

Temwa's remarkable feat, scoring an impressive 63 goals for both her national team and Chinese club Wuhan Jiangda, places her at the pinnacle of female football excellence.

Zambian players Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji also earned spots in the top 10, emphasizing the growing prowess of African women in global football.

Interestingly, Temwa Chawinga's elder sister, Tabitha, secured the 25th position on the list, demonstrating that football talent runs deep within their family.

Temwa Chawinga's goal-scoring prowess becomes even more impressive when compared to the leading male goalscorer of the calendar year, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Ronaldo's four goals over the Christmas period, he finished with a total of 54 goals for club and country.

Temwa's 63 goals not only outshone the leading male goalscorer but also surpassed other football luminaries such as England's Harry Kane and France's Kylian Mbappé.
