Manchester United young bloods return the Red Devils to winning ways against Newcastle

Manchester United found their rhythm against Newcastle as they sealed a comfortable win against the Magpies.

The Red Devil were hoping they can build their confidence with a win over Newcastle following a 1-0 defeat last weekend against Arsenal.

They got a deserved 3-2 win against Newcastle but despite the win, they could miss out on European football next season.

As it happened

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag made few changes with Bruno Fernandes, the team captain replacing Rasmus Hojlund after recovering from a rare injury.

Casemiro and Jonny Evans returned to the starting lineup at the back, which was the only change from their 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

After recovering from injury, Newcastle made just a few changes with Kieran Trippier making his first start for Newcastle since March. He takes the place of Tino Livramento - with everyone else keeping their place from the 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Manchester United started the game brightly and created chances but it was not until the 32nd minute before they found the net.

Kobbie Mainoo was in acres of space in the box as Bruno Fernandes flicked on Amad Diallo's ball before shooting into the bottom corner with the Red Devils taking the lead into the break.

The second half started and Newcastle got back on level terms. Andre Onana pumped a goal-kick up the pitch and two Manchester United players failed to get it under control before Jacob Murphy swung in a cross which Anthony Gordon stabbed home.

The Red Devils quickly responded and took the lead. Bruno Fernandes' corner is headed out but only as far as Amad Diallo, who rifled a shot in from 16 yards, leaving Martin Dubravka with no chance.

Ten Hag’s men rose to the occasion again and added the third goal. Bruno Fernandes found Hojlun just outside the box. He cut inside two defenders and slotted a shot into the bottom corner from 16 yards.

Newcastle got a goal back to make it 3-2 in injury time after Casemiro headed a corner out which fell to Lewis Hall, who curled a lovely effort past Andre Onana.

Despite their late surge and getting a goal in injury time, Newcastle still fell to a 3-2 defeat leaving them a tight spot for European football next season.
