After Matheus Cunha, the Red Devils are primed to pinch another signing that will surely excite goalkeeper Andre Onana
Manchester United are splashing the cash again, and this time, it's for André Onana’s compatriot, Bryan Mbeumo.
In a transfer deal that signals their attacking intent for the upcoming season, the Red Devils have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign the Cameroonian forward for a total package £71 million deal (approximately ₦146 billion).
Amorim gets his man after summer-long chase
It’s been a long and winding road to this point, and the Red Devils’ interest in Mbeumo has been no secret, especially with Ruben Amorim pushing hard for attacking reinforcements.
Amorim had identified the Cameroonian international early in the window as a key piece to revitalise Manchester United’s limp forward line, a unit that managed just 44 Premier League goals last season, their lowest output since the league’s rebranding in 1992.
The Red Deils initially saw their £55m and £62.5m bids turned down by a firm Brentford front office, but they have finally struck a deal worth £71m, an initial £65m upfront with a potential £6m in add-ons.
The move ends fears that Tottenham or Arsenal might swoop in, especially with Spurs now coached by Mbeumo’s former manager, Thomas Frank.
Mbeumo’s firepower adds much-needed bite to United’s attack
The player himself had made it clear he would only leave Brentford for Old Trafford, and that loyalty may have helped United win the race.
Mbeumo, who notched 20 goals last season and boasts 70 strikes in 242 games for the Bees, has matured into a consistent Premier League threat.
Having joined Brentford for just £5.8m from Troyes in 2019, he’s been one of the league’s most effective wide attackers who is strong, direct, and intelligent.
His numbers speak volumes: 42 goals in 136 Premier League matches, and with Mbeumo set to join Matheus Cunha as United’s marquee summer signings, Amorim’s attacking blueprint is beginning to take shape.
