With Victor Osimhen reportedly no longer top of the wishlist, Manchester United have reportedly turned their full attention to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman in a potential swap deal that could see Rasmus Hojlund return to Atalanta.
Manchester United consider Lookman swap
When Manchester United splashed a whopping £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund just last season, the hope was that they had secured the next big thing in European football. Fast forward to today, and the 22-year-old Norwegian striker has managed just three goals in 28 league appearances this season and was once again hooked after another frustrating outing in the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss to Wolves.
According to The Sun, Manchester United could be ready to cut their losses by offering Hojlund back to Atalanta in a sensational part-exchange deal for Ademola Lookman.
Lookman has been electric for Atalanta, spearheading their Europa League triumph last season with a stunning hat-trick in the final and scooping the African Footballer of the Year award in the process.
Despite his success, tensions with manager Gian Piero Gasperini have cast a shadow over his future, making a summer exit likely.
Matheus Cunha still on Manchester United’s radar
While the Lookman-Hojlund swap deal is gathering steam, it’s not the only striker shake-up brewing at Old Trafford.
Wolves' Matheus Cunha continues to be high on United’s radar, and according to reports, a deal is edging closer. Red Devils’ boss Ruben Amorim has made no secret of his admiration for the Brazilian forward, lauding his flexibility and knack for goals.
After Manchester United’s recent clash with Wolves, Amorim was even seen chatting with Cunha in the tunnel, a move fans are reading as a tell-tale sign that a transfer is brewing.
The Brazilian reportedly has a £62.5 million release clause in his contract, and while Manchester United would need to cough up to activate it, they’re optimistic that personal terms can be wrapped up quickly, especially since they still have financial room under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
