Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for £51million, according to Le Parisien.
Despite months of haggling over the player's valuation, with PSG initially demanding £60million, the clubs are now closing in on a permanent transfer.
Uguarte close to Manchester United move
Ugarte has been a top midfield target for United all summer and is reportedly eager to join Erik Ten Hag's side.
His desire to leave PSG has been heightened by being left out of the squad for the opening game of the season by manager Luis Enrique.
Although alternative targets like Sander Berge and Youssouf Fofana were explored, United are now focused on wrapping up the Ugarte deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ugarte's preference is a move to Old Trafford, and a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause was also considered to navigate the high asking price. However, a straight £51million transfer is now the likely outcome.
Final details are being finalized, and all parties are confident of sealing the deal before the transfer window closes.
