Scott McTominay scored twice to help Manchester United defeat Chelsea in a low-quality Premier League match.

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory against Chelsea in a midweek Premier League fixture at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils lost away at Newcastle last weekend but have now responded with a much-needed win thanks to two goals from Scott McTominay.

Both teams served up the opposite of a spectacle, especially Chelsea who were horrifically bad and lucky to lose by such a slim margin largely thanks to a mixture of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez's heroics and poor finishing from Manchester United.

Manchester United started the game on the front foot and their endeavour was rewarded early on when Enzo Fernandez was adjudged to have fouled Antony in the box.

The hosts were given a penalty following a VAR review which captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take but was denied by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez in the ninth minute.

Robert Sanchez continued to pull Chelsea out of sticky situations with good saves until the 19th minute when Scott McTominay broke his resolve.

Chelsea defended poorly and after Marc Cucurella blocked Harry Maguire’s initial effort, McTominay provided a clinical touch and finish. to open the scoring.

Both teams continued to create and waste chances but it was Chelsea who scored against the run of play with halftime approaching as Cole Palmer beat Onana with a precise finish into the bottom corner.

The second half resumed with a similar theme as United continued to dominate while Chelsea struggled to convert their few chances and they were promptly made to pay for their disorganisation.

Alejandro Garnacho put in a stellar cross which was met by the in-form McTominay who headed past Sanchez in the 69th minute what proved to be the winner.

The hosts had several opportunities to seal the result with another goal but continued to be wasteful in front of goal but it didn't matter as the two goals they did score proved enough.

The result takes Manchester United up to sixth on the log, eight points ahead of Chelsea who are 10th having lost two of their last three Premier League games.
