Man United target Semenyo revealed to have ₦123 billion release clause
Top Premier League clubs are on high alert after a recent report revealed that Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has a reasonable release clause in his contract, which could let him leave the Vitality Stadium as early as January.
The Ghana international has been one of the top-performing wingers in the Premier League the past season and a half. Hence, he was subject of interest to clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham.
However, while they lost key players like Dango Ouattara, Dean Huijsen, Ilya Zabarnyi and Milos Kerkez, they managed to keep Semenyo, handing him a contract renewal until 2030.
Semenyo transfer boost for top clubs
The contract extension was initially thought to be a deterrent, or at least an assurance that they could demand a king’s ransom for the winger.
However, the Athletic’s David Ornstein reported today that with the extension came a release clause which would allow suitors to sign Semenyo for £65 million, £5 million short of his £70 million price tag last summer.
However, the clause is said to be time sensitive, meaning suitors must trigger it before a certain date in January to afford Bournemouth time to sign a replacement.
The Cherries will prefer to keep Semenyo, who has been exceptional this season, with six goals and three assists in 11 starts, which have helped Andoni Iraola have a bright start to the campaign.
Should they manage to convince him to stay until the end of the season, the report states that the release clause will become active again at an even lesser fee.
