Manchester City and Chelsea have agreed to a £25 million price for Mateo Kovacic and the Premier League champions are about to add their first summer addition.

Kovacic was a longtime favourite of Pep Guardiola before he moved to Chelsea, but he was unable to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The two teams have concluded negotiations for a transfer that includes £5 million in additional clauses based on performance, but the Croatian player must still go through a medical before the official announcement.

After first joining on loan from Real Madrid, Kovacic's five-year stay at Stamford Bridge will come to an end with his departure.

According to reports, the Chelsea midfielder is set to sign for Man City after a deal worth £25 million plus 5 million add-ons was agreed by both clubs.

Kovacic preparing for medical

Kovacic is set to undergo a medical at the Etihad after returning from international duty with Croatia.

According to Daily Mail, the Croatian international will undergo his medical and join Pep Guardiola's side for pre-season.

Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Twitter, saying, “Mateo Kovacić joins Manchester City from Chelsea, fee agreed and done deal — here we go!

“Agreement between clubs just reached for a £30m fee. Personal terms agreed two weeks ago, Kovacić only wanted Man City. Medicals in the next days.”

In order to help Guardiola's team continue their dominance in the league, Kovacic will add depth to City's midfield line ahead of the 2023–24 season.

Kovacic spell at Chelsea

Mateo Kovacic was one of Chelsea’s best players having joined the Blues on loan from Real Madrid in 2018 before making the move permanent.

The 29-year-old has featured 221 times for the Premier League giants, scoring on six occasions and providing 15 assists.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and temporary manager Frank Lampard, Kovacic became dissatisfied with the circumstances.

The Blues ended in 12th position in the 2022–23 Premier League, a startling 27 points below fourth place.

Kovacic called Chelsea's catastrophic season very awful and made it plain that he wanted to leave the team this summer.
