'Lookman isn’t a player you can sell' — Inter president explains reason he wants to sign CAF POTY
Inter president Beppe Marotta explained why they intend to make a significant investment in Ademola Lookman, despite his advanced age and low resale value.
Atalanta rejected Inter's €40 million bid for the Nigerian, as La Dea are holding out on €50 million. Still, the 20-time Serie A champions were not discouraged and are expected to return with an offer of €45 million.
Marotta explains Lookman interest
The Inter president was asked about the economics of the Lookman deal, as they were making a significant investment in a player close to 30.
While he conceded that they do not envisage recouping their investment through a future sale, he explained that Lookman's experience was integral to their plans.
“We all agree that, in football, you rarely win just with eleven talented players,” he said, per Sempre Inter. “Along with talent, you need experience. And you need very strong character.
“Lookman isn’t a player you can sell on for a profit. But he can give us the edge with his quality.
"He’s not a player that I’ve just discovered, but a good player can also help the young players around him develop. A mixture of younger and more experienced players adds value to the squad.”
