A Liverpool supporter has been handed a stadium ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Bournemouth’s Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo during Friday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Bournemouth, which ended 4-2 in favour of the Reds.

Semenyo proved too hot for Liverpool and the fans to handle after the Ghana star fired a brace to initially help the Cherries come from two goals down to equalise 2-2 at some point in the game.

However, the game would be marred by the off-pitch incident in the end, despite Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah adding two more goals to give the Reds the opening day three points.

On Monday, according to a report by Sportal, police confirmed he has been released but is now prohibited from attending any football match anywhere in the United Kingdom. Additionally, he must stay at least one mile (1.6 km) away from any football stadium.

The Liverpool-Bournemouth match was temporarily paused in the 29th minute after Semenyo alerted the referee to the racist abuse directed at him from the stands.

The Ghanaian winger, who scored twice in the game, spoke out about the incident on Saturday, emphasising how the moment will stay with him, but not because of the abuse itself.

“Not because of one person’s words, but because the entire football family came together,” Semenyo wrote on social media, highlighting the solidarity shown across the sport in the wake of the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation in cooperation with both clubs as they work to stamp out racism from football grounds.
