Lille are looking to form a great partnership with another Nigerian forward after Victor Osimhen and have identified Gent's Gift Orban as a possible summer addition

Ligue 1 side Lille are set to continue with their Nigerian fascination with the signing of 21-year-old Gent forward Gift Orban as a possible replacement for Jonathan David.

The 2020/21 Ligue 1 champions are set to close a loop that they started by targeting Orban to replace David, who is also being touted as a replacement for Victor Osimhen at Napoli, who also signed for the Italian giants from Lille.

According to a tweet from football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Orban is the most likely candidate identified by Lille to replace David, whom they expect to lose in the summer after the Nigerian forward’s superb half-season in the Belgian Pro League with Gent.

Orban has scored 20 goals in 20 games for Gent since moving to the club in January, including 15 goals in 12 league games for the Buffalos and has set himself up to be one of the top summer transfer stories with some incredible performances in Europe as well.

Lille are resigned to losing David, who became the club’s all-time top scorer in Ligue 1 this century with another amazing goal haul in the league.

Gift Orban has attracted interest from the likes of Man United, Inter Milan and Sevilla.

David has scored 22 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games so far, with only Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette scoring more.

The Canadian forward helped Lille to within touching distance of a Europen berth next season, but is unlikely to be part of the squad for the coming campaign after being linked to a summer move abroad.

That being the case, Lille are now keeping tabs on Orban, believing that they can give a platform to another Nigerian gem after success with Osimhen.
