Midfielder's stellar performance secures FKF Cup victory and CAF Confederation Cup spot.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo has showered midfielder Kevin Amwayi with accolades after his match-winning goal secured victory for the team in the FKF Cup final against Tusker on Saturday.

The 34-year-old midfielder scored the lone goal that secured the win for Homeboyz and also propelled them to a well-deserved spot in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup.

Amwayi had been confident in his abilities, repeatedly assuring his teammates that he would lead them to victory and true to his words, he netted the crucial goal that secured the win for Homeboyz.

"He had been telling us that he would carry us to the win, and he did it by scoring the winning goal," said Odhiambo while expressing admiration of the player.

Amwayi arrived at Homeboyz in the mid-season transfer window of February on a one-year contract and has proved to be a masterstroke for the team.

His impressive displays for FKF Division One side Kona Rangers caught the attention of Homeboyz, prompting them to track the talented midfielder.

With his vast experience in the game, having kickstarted his career at former FKF Premier League side Western Stima in 2011, Amwayi made a name for himself.

He subsequently joined Ulinzi Stars at the start of 2012, leaving the club after the 2019 season.

After a brief hiatus, Amwayi resurfaced at Kona Rangers in January 2022 before joining Homeboyz.

Amwayi's winning goal not only brought glory to the team but also solidified his position as a key player for Kakamega Homeboyz.

The victory in the FKF Cup final marks a significant milestone in the team's history, as they now look forward to competing in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup.
