Kenyan midfielder Duke Abuya scored his first league goal for Singida Fountain Gate during their hard-fought 3-2 victory away to Namungo on Saturday night

Harambee Stars midfielder Duke Abuya scored his first league goal for Tanzanian side Singida Fountain Gate after opening the scoring in their 3-2 victory away to Namungo FC on Saturday night.

Abuya, who has continued to impress since switching to Tanzania from Kenya Police in July, kept his place in the team yet again and rewarded his side with a good display in midfield as well as a goal.

The Kenyan international struck just before halftime as Singida took a 1-0 lead to the break but Burundian defender Derrick Mukombozi levelled the scores in the 64th minute.

Namungo’s joy was short lived, however, as Togolese Marouf Tchakei put Singida ahead three minutes later before completing his brace 10 minutes from time.

The home side pulled one back deep in injury time through Emmanuel Charles but it was too little to late to rescue a point as Singida secured the win, which was just their second of the season.

Singida have not started the campaign brilliantly despite a huge outlay on new players as they have only won two, drawn as many and lost an equal number of their six games which leaves them sixth on the table with eight points, seven behind leaders Simba SC, who have played a game less.

Besides Abuya, Singida is also home to his former Kenya Police team-mate Elvis Rupia and ex-Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango, who joined on loan from Simba.

Rupia, who has scored one goal for his side, started on the bench while Onyango was not into the matchday squad.

The victory at the Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, Lindi is just what the team needed ahead of Friday’s encounter against champions Yanga.

It will be a big test for Singida against Yanga who are third on the table and have conceded just two goals so far.
