Bendel Insurance did not enjoy a good market day in the NPFL following a defeat to Katsina United.

Katsina United served a tip of what to expect in week 14 of the NPFL after they edged past Bendel Insurance 1-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Saturday.

Chidera Eze’s late penalty extended the visitors’ run away from home to back-to-back defeats in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

Bendel Insurance lose ground

In what was a keenly contested match between the two teams, it was the Changi Boys who did enough to take all three points.

Benin Arsenal, who were considered one of the teams expected to challenge for the NPFL title, appear to be losing ground in the race.

With just nine goals scored in 14 matches, coach Michael Odigie and his Benin boys have a lot to be worried about after dropping to fifth on the table.

Two defeats and a draw in the last five matches leave the Arsenals on 20 points, six behind leaders Remo Stars, who face Kano Pillars in Kano on Sunday.

Katsina United gain ground

Meanwhile, it was another positive outing in contrast for Insurance’s host, Katsina United.

Eze proved to be the hero as his 74th-minute goal from 12 yards handed the Changi Boys the victory and three points.

The win against Odigie’s boys was United’s first in five matches in the Football League after three draws and a defeat in the previous four.

Katsina United have now taken four points from a possible six in the last two matches, and are now just three points behind their visitors, Bendel Insurance, on the table.
