Juventus will never sign Osimhen - Chiellini reveals why Italian club will not sign Super Eagles star
Juventus director Giorgio Chiellini has firmly played down speculation linking the Italian giants with Victor Osimhen, insisting the Bianconeri were never in contention to sign the Nigerian striker.
Chiellini made the remarks after Juventus were drawn against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs, a tie that will see Osimhen face his former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti.
What Chiellini said
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia from Nyon, Chiellini acknowledged the quality of the Turkish champions and warned against underestimating their threat.
“They are a strong team with great players. We’ll play the second leg at home, so it won’t be decided in Istanbul. We’ll need to be sharp, play our game, exploit their weaknesses, and contain their significant potential and individual talent, not just in attack,” Chiellini said.
Asked whether he would have enjoyed playing against Osimhen during his career, Chiellini responded lightheartedly while praising the striker’s qualities.
“Right now, I couldn’t cope. But I would have loved to mark him for 45 minutes. He’s a powerful player who attacks space and has a natural hunger you don’t see in many others,” he joked.
Chiellini was unequivocal when addressing claims that Juventus had once been close to signing Osimhen during his time at Napoli.
“If you mean that a club likes Osimhen, I think that’s true for all teams, especially in Italy. But Juventus were never really in the running,” he said.
