Leeds United have reportedly submitted an opening bid to Juventus of around £25m for United States midfielder, Weston McKennie.

McKennie has already agreed to personal terms with Leeds as the two clubs continue to negotiate a final deal.

The midfielder has been linked to several Premier League clubs in the January transfer window, including Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Bournemouth but it has been suggested that having an American manager in Jesse Marsch might convince him to take up the offer at Elland Road.

Big picture for McKennie

McKennie first arrived at Juventus on loan but Juventus made his move permanent in March of 2021 after impressing under then-manager Andrea Pirlo. Up and down form as well as injuries have been the theme for the American midfielder the last two years under Max Allegri, which has seen his playing time fluctuate.

Sometimes that playing time has come out of position, something that happened under Pirlo from time to time but wasn’t to the same extent as in the last season and a half with Allegri.

He was barely able to make a consistent impact contributing just 13 goals and five assists in 96 games across all competitions.

Leeds are managed by American coach Jesse Marsch who has added a pair of USMNT talents in Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson. This could be a deal that reignites McKennie's carer and allows him to thrive alongside familiar faces.
