Liverpool and Argentina’s midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister, have complained about having to play early kick-offs subsequently after the international break.

The World Cup winner struggled to stay awake during the Liverpool team meeting in preparation for the top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City.

It is so hard to play like this - Mac Allister

The game against City was the third time Jurgen Klopp's side have played in an early Saturday kickoff immediately after an international break.

Mac Allister travelled to South America to represent his country and was involved in a World Cup qualifying game on Wednesday morning, UK time. The Argentine midfielder has voiced his complaints about the effect of such quick turnover.

Speaking after the away game with City, he said, "Honestly, it is so hard to play like this." " Yesterday (Friday), we were in a meeting talking about Man City and the way we wanted to play, and I couldn't keep my eyes open.

"It's very tough. Jet lag, long trip, but it is what it is. We like playing football; it's what we want to win, and that's why we did our best at City)."

The Reds have been involved in such fixtures more than twice as many times as any other club since Klopp took over the reigns at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold earned the Reds a valuable point

Erling Haaland gave City the lead with his 50th Premier League since joining City, becoming the fastest player in history to hit the landmark.

With ten minutes left to play, Alexander-Arnold's fine strike from the edge of the box restored parity for the Reds, putting a stop to City’s winning run at the Etihad.
