Manchester United star midfielder Bruno Fernandes confirmed his desire to stay at the club in an open letter to the fans.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes addressed his future in a letter to Manchester United fans, confirming his desire to stay, weeks after suggesting he would be open to leaving.

What Fernandes said

The Portugal international penned a lengthy letter to Manchester United supporters via the Players Tribune, apologising for the poor season they have had up until this point and promising an immediate improvement starting with the FA Cup final against their crosstown rivals.

He narrated his emotional journey to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon and thanked the fans for their support since his debut season till date.

He went on to confirm in the letter his desire to continue at the club, amid the rumours linking him with a move away from Manchester United.

“I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream,” Bruno said in the letter.

“I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing. We want to compete for the league.

“We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.

“I just want to keep fighting. I want to be here. My family wants to be here. If you doubt that for a moment, then you just have to look at my Spotify Wrapped, and that will prove it to you.”

Bruno changes stance

The letter comes weeks after Bruno Fernandes left the door to his Manchester United future open in an interview with DAZN Portugal.

“Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it?” Fernandes said. “A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides.

“I’m not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far.

“So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment.”

Manchester United face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday, and the Red Devils are tasked with preventing the Cityzens from becoming the first team to win consecutive doubles.
