How Manchester City could help Barcelona sign Marcus Rashford

However, an unexpected financial boost from Manchester City could change the situation and allow the Catalan giants to finally bring the English star to the Spotify Camp Nou.

With Pep Guardiola’s side pushing for the signing of Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez, Barcelona could be in line for a €24 million windfall—funds that may be crucial in securing Rashford’s move.

Manchester City have been active in the transfer market, spending heavily on Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Omar Marmoush.

Now, their attention has turned to strengthening their midfield, with ex-Barcelona academy star Nico Gonzalez at the top of their list.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City have made a formal approach for Gonzalez, who has a €60 million release clause at Porto.

Barcelona, having retained a 40% sell-on clause when they sold the Spaniard 18 months ago, would be entitled to €24 million if the deal goes through.

While it remains unclear whether City will trigger the clause outright or negotiate a lower fee, any significant sale would provide Barcelona with much-needed financial relief, moving them closer to securing Rashford’s loan move.

Barcelona have already taken steps to free up financial space, recently agreeing to sell 19-year-old La Masia talent Unai Hernandez to Al Ittihad for €4.5 million plus €0.5 million in add-ons. Another academy product, Pau Prim, is set to leave for Qatar, further boosting their finances.

Reports suggest that Barcelona need around €6 million to finalize a deal for Rashford, with a loan move being the most realistic option.
