Brentford's Frank Onyeka has explained the impact of his AFCON 2023 journey with Nigeria's Super Eagles on his game.

Brentford and Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka is feeling different after returning from a successful Africa Cup of Nations campaign with Nigeria.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Onyeka believes he is fully fit following his return to Premier League side Brentford from AFCON 2023 duty.

Onyeka fondly referred to as "the tank", played every minute for the Super Eagles as they reached the AFCON 2023 final in Cote d'Ivoire before losing 2-1 to the hosts.

Despite the defeat, Onyeka was outstanding throughout the tournament, earning rave reviews for his tireless displays shielding the Nigerian defense.

And after rejoining Brentford following AFCON duty, the 26-year-old says he feels in peak physical condition after making his first start against defending champions, Manchester City.

"Going back to Africa, helping my team, coming back fit, it’s been really good,” Onyeka told Brentford website.

“I feel really fit," he added Onyeka after Brentford's 1-0 loss away to City on Saturday in the Premier League.

Onyeka recorded the most interceptions, tackles, blocks, and shots for the Bees in the clash against the PL holders.

On the match against Pep Guardiola and his champions, Onyeka expressed a mixed feeling after a gallant but narrow defeat.

“It was hard, but it was also good, especially defending and on counterattacks. We came here believing we could do it again, so to lose 1-0 is sad, but it was a good performance."

The Super Eagles AFCON star would hope to establish himself as a key player for both the Bees as he has done for his country.

Brentford will be hoping his commanding performances for the Eagles and against City can boost their bid for Premier League survival upon the league's resumption.

The midfielder has proven he can compete with the best Africa has to offer. Now he aims to help Brentford extend their stay in the Premier League beyond just one season.
