Sergio Ramos has hailed Lamine Yamal’s “surreal” rise

Veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has showered praise on teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal, acknowledging the youngster's astonishing rise in world football while setting aside traditional club rivalries between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Speaking during a press conference, Ramos, who is currently playing his trade with CF Monterrey (Rayados) in Mexico, described the 17-year-old Yamal’s impact at both club and international levels as “not normal” and a clear indication that the winger is already operating beyond his years.

“For me, Lamine is a reality that’s coming on strong,” Ramos said.

He added, “He’s breaking records that are not normal for someone his age. I sincerely wish him the best—even though he’s a Barcelona player—because at the end of the day, I want the national team to thrive.”

Yamal has enjoyed a meteoric year. After star-turn performances at UEFA Euro 2024, where he helped Spain win the tournament and was named Young Player of the Tournament, the Barcelona wonderkid continued his fine form into the 2024–25 season.

The stats speak volumes, 21 goals and 25 assists in 62 appearances across all competitions for both club and country. He was instrumental in Barcelona’s domestic treble; La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España.
