Osimhen's future remains up in the air, as he has yet to sign Napoli's contract offer. Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro weighs in on the situation and where the striker's future lies.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has weighed in on Victor Osimhen’s future as the striker continues to remain in a contract standoff with Napoli.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international led the Partenopei to the Scudetto last season in magnificent fashion, winning the Cappocanoniere and becoming the highest-scoring African in Serie A history along the way.

This has made him the subject of interest for a number of top European clubs, and in reaction, Napoli have offered him a contract extension to keep him beyond 2025, when his current deal is set to expire. The player, however, is yet to agree, sparking speculations on his future.

What Peseiro said on Osimhen’s future

The Nigerian national team coach believes the prospect of Osimhen remaining at Napoli is not likely, given the volatility of modern football and the convergence of top talents in the few big teams.

He believes that winning at a club like Napoli is more valuable, but he admits that the logical thing for the striker to do would be to accept the offer of bigger teams when they eventually arrive.

"In the new football, you can't say that Osimhen will stay at Napoli forever,” he said, per TuttoNapoli.

“Today he is happy; winning in Naples is more fascinating than with Milan, with Inter or with City because everyone had lower expectations Furthermore, everyone can connect him to Maradona: before he was the Italian champion in Naples, today it is Osimhen.

“In today's business, everything can change: if an important offer arrives for him and for the club, logically, he can change team.

“Furthermore, he can think about changing the league. For Italy, it would be better to have it. Once upon a time, Italy could afford the best players in the world, but today not. There is more money in the Premier League and the other European countries."

Meanwhile, Peseiro is set to be without two of his best players, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying games against Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
