Proud to be Nigerian- Ex-Juventus star praises Rema for making fans go crazy

Rema made headlines recently after he performed at the Ballon d’Or award ceremony in France last week.

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh says he is proud to be a Nigerian after watching Rema perform at the Ballon d’Or award ceremony. 

Rema was one of the major attractions at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris last week as he performed some of his biggest hits in front of many superstars.

The Dumebi crooner performed his biggest hit to date, Calm Down, to the delight of the people in attendance.

Rema also received praise from fans on social media, including Oliseh, who revealed the music star’s performance made him proud to be a Nigerian. 

Oliseh revealed this on his Twitter account, quoting a video of Rema’s performance at the Ballon d’Or award ceremony. 

The ex-Juventus star revealed fans also went crazy every time Rema’s Calm Down came up at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. ‘

“Forever engraved in my eternal pride to be Nigerian moments; Every time this song was played in the Stadium in Qatar 2022 World Cup, people went CRAZYYYYY. Love this Great song,” Oliseh said on Twitter. 

Calm Down’s Impact 

Calm Down is arguably the biggest and most successful Afrobeats song of all time. The original song became a sensation on social media platforms, leading to a collaboration with Selena Gomez. 

The song then exploded further following the remix with Selena Gomez. Calm Down remix went to number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, the highest position by a Nigerian song on the chart.

It also led the U.S. Afrobeats Songs for a record-setting 58 weeks until it was surpassed by Tyla's 'Water' on October 21, 2023. 

Rema’s latest feat is just one of the many achievements of Afrobeats artists in recent years.
