Thomas Tuchel has blamed Cole Palmer for his performance against Andorra

Thomas Tuchel has attributed Cole Palmer's poor performance in the 1-0 win against Andorra to the player's form before joining the national squad.

According to Tuchel, Palmer "struggled lately at Chelsea to have an impact," similar to fellow midfielder Phil Foden, who has faced challenges over several months.

What Tuchel said

Speaking ahead of England's next match against Senegal, Tuchel questioned whether inviting players like Palmer and Foden to join the squad could help them regain their form.

He said, “At the moment, I think that even Cole struggled lately at Chelsea to have an impact. Phil [Foden], unfortunately, struggled over many months now to have the impact that he can have.

“So, the question would always be: ‘Do we then invite them and create an atmosphere that he can still perform here?’ It’s difficult to prescribe freedom, to play with freedom and suddenly everyone plays with freedom.”

Palmer's performance in the second half of the last season was marked by a dip in form, but he showed impressive performance in the Conference League final, setting up Chelsea's first two goals in their 4-1 win against Real Betis.

England face Senegal next, with fans expecting an improved performance from Palmer and the team.
