Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed his football idol, hailing a former Nigerian player as biggest inspiration.

Former Arsenal and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has shared his profound respect for Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu.

Adebayor was reportedly addressing claims comparing the two icons by promptly dismissing any such debate in a heartfelt social media post.

“I beg you people, Kanu [Nwankwo] is my idol and my god of football. So please, no comparison needed here. Thank you for understanding,” Adebayor stated, as quoted by Brila.

His words have since gone viral, earning admiration from Nigerian football fans who praised his humility and reverence for Kanu, fondly known as Papilo.

Kanu, a former star at Ajax, Inter Milan, and Arsenal, is one of Africa’s most decorated footballers, with a UEFA Champions League title, Premier League trophies, and an Olympic gold medal to his name.

Both African icons also have a friendly relationship, having been spotted together on several occasions.

Kanu is currently the chairman of the Nigerian football club, Enyimba FC of Aba.
