Paris Saint-Germain's new talisman, Ousmane Dembele has spoken about the hurt of losing Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season as the French side prepare for the Champions League final

Ousmane Dembele has emerged as the unexpected hero in Paris Saint-Germain’s historic run to the Champions League final.

With Kylian Mbappe gone to chase his Real Madrid dream, it’s Dembele who’s now leading the charge toward European glory.

Dembele thrives in new PSG system

Since Luis Enrique handed him the No. 9 role, Dembele has been a man possessed, racking up 25 goals in 27 games while wreaking havoc on defences across Europe.

His central role has given him the freedom to drift, cut inside, and, in his own words, “drive them crazy.”

With a treble on the line, having claimed the Ligue 1, French Cup, and now possibly the Champions League, Dembele knows that a Ballon d’Or may no longer be a pipe dream.

However, the Frenchman is not getting distracted, and noted, “The Ballon d’Or is maybe at the back of my mind, but I am focusing on the team.”

PSG dominating despite Mbappe exit

Dembele made no attempt to sugar-coat the disappointment in Mbappe’s departure, saying, “He had a dream of playing for Real Madrid and now we’re just focusing on ourselves.”

Instead of folding after the exit of their talisman, PSG grew. Without the individualism of Mbappe and Neymar, the team has rediscovered its identity, knocking out Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal on the road to the final.

Speaking on the possibility of lifting the first Champions League title in PSG history, Dembele said, “This has been a dream of mine since I was a child. We know Paris will be vibrating with excitement — but we have to control our emotions.”

Now, all eyes look to the Munich Stadium, where Inter and PSG will do battle as well as on Dembele, the new prince of Paris.
