Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez was grumpy before firing the Cityzens into the FA Cup final.

Riyad Mahrez was left out of both legs of Man City’s Champions League quarter-final triumph over Bayern Munich as Portugues diminutive midfielder, Bernardo Silva was preferred on the right wing.

He returned to the side at Wembley to face Sheffield United and responded by scoring a hat-trick to send Pep Guardiola's men through to the FA Cup final.

Grumpy Mahrez sends City to Wembley

Mahrez scored his first from the penalty spot before halftime and added two more after the break to secure the match ball, and Guardiola was full of praise after the match.

“He’s grumpy with me when he doesn’t play, all the time,” Guardiola said.

“He makes me notice when he’s grumpy. So happy for Riyad, he loves to play football, he’s given so much for Man City, and hopefully [he continues to] in the future."

Up next for City

A potential Premier League title decider against Arsenal in midweek and a Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid next month could define City's season but whatever happens, Riyad Mahrez will have a bg role to play.
