With Gianpiero Gasperini leaving Atalanta, it might be time for Ademola Lookman to make some important decisions

Gian Piero Gasperini has called time on his nine-year stint with Atalanta, but his exit leaves more questions than answers, especially for one of the club’s biggest stars, Ademola Lookman.

While many fans assumed the Nigerian might stay following the coach's departure, signs point in the opposite direction.

The Italian tactician confirmed in an emotional message that he is stepping down as Atalanta’s head coach, with a new challenge at AS Roma likely on the horizon.

Gian Piero Gasperini says Lookman was dangerous and got into good positions against Venezia.

Reports indicate that he will sign a three-year deal in the capital, complete with Champions League and Serie A title bonuses.

Gasperini cited a desire for “new motivation” and hinted that, despite his success, the Europa League and multiple Champions League qualifications, his time had simply run its course.

But behind the touching farewell was a deeper layer of frustration. Gasperini reportedly asked the club to guarantee the retention of key players like Lookman. The club’s failure to meet those terms may have played a key role in his decision to leave.

What Gasperini’s exit means for Lookman’s future at Atalanta

Although fans hoped Gasperini’s exit might secure Lookman’s future at the club, the opposite may be true.

The relationship between coach and player was severely strained after Gasperini slammed Lookman for missing a penalty against Club Brugge, calling him “one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen.”

Despite later claiming the comment wasn’t meant to offend, the damage was done, reportedly fracturing the relationship between player and coach.

But even before the spat, Lookman was already linked with a summer move. Now, with Gasperini gone and the club seemingly open to selling its stars, all signs suggest Lookman may be the next to walk out the Atalanta door.
