Ikorodu City’s Waliu Ojetoye attracts interest from Rivers United coach Finidi George and Ahmed Musa’s Kano Pillars after a standout NPFL season, sparking a transfer battle ahead of the new campaign.

Ikorodu City’s promising right-back Waliu Ojetoye has attracted significant interest from top Nigerian clubs, including Rivers United, coached by former Super Eagles star Finidi George, and Kano Pillars, who have veteran striker Ahmed Musa.

The youngster defender’s impressive performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have put him on the radar of several teams eager to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.

Ojetoye’s Standout Season Sparks Transfer Interest

Ojetoye enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Ikorodu City, finishing the season with nine assists, the highest tally for any defender in the NPFL.

His creativity and defensive solidity helped the Oga Boys secure an impressive 4th place finish in their debut season.

His form earned him deserved call-up the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Unity Cup, although he did not feature in the tournament matches.

Transfer Battle Looms as Clubs Eye Young Talent

Rivers United coach Finidi George is keen to strengthen his side as they aim to challenge for the NPFL title after finishing second last season.

Former Super Eagles boss Finidi George will target the NPFL title again.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars, captained by Ahmed Musa, are also reportedly interested in securing Ojetoye’s signature.

According to NPFL expert Mike The Pundit, clubs will need to present compelling offers to convince the player to leave, as Ojetoye remains calm and happy in Lagos despite the growing attention.

Waliu won the Unity Cup with Nigeria's Super Eagles.

Currently on holiday, Ojetoye’s break may be short-lived as rumours swirl about a potential move away from Ikorodu City.

At just 20 years old, the defender’s future looks bright, with opportunities to make bigger strides in Nigerian football or possibly beyond.
