Following torrential rainfall in Owerri on Wednesday, Lobi Stars' round of 16 encounter with Bendel Insurance Feeders, was halted after just 36 minutes.

Former Nigerian cup champions Lobi Stars have edged third-division side Bendel Insurance Feeders to cruise into the quarterfinals of the 2023 Nigerian Federation Cup.

Lobi Stars complete comeback on Thursday morning

Prior to the suspension of the tie on Wednesday, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side had led 2-1 in the encounter.

Bendel Insurance Feeders had taken the lead in the 7th minute of the game through Sylvester Iweke, however, the Murkurdi club fought their way back into it, scoring twice thanks to Kumaga Suur, and Joseph Atule.

Restart on Thursday saw them continue from where they stopped, with Atule scoring his second in the 44th minute, a goal that would eventually seal the game for them.

Lobi Stars join 7 others in quarterfinal stage

Victory in the round of 16 means that the 2003 Nigerian cup champions now join seven other already qualified teams in the quarterfinals.

Former champions Rangers, Bendel Insurance and Plateau United as well as title-seeking Sunshine Stars, Warri Wolves, Doma United and Kwara United are the other teams in the last 8.

The champion of the 2023 edition will represent Nigeria at next season's CAF Confederation Cup.
