Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea midfielder and manager, is reportedly in discussions to take over as the head coach of the Canada national team.

The 43-year-old has been without a managerial role for almost a year following his departure from Stamford Bridge.

Lampard, who also had managerial stints at Derby County and Everton, is eager to make a comeback to the sport.

Lampard on Canada radar

Canada, who are playing in their first-ever Copa America this summer, have added Lampard to their shortlist of possible future managers after John Herdman's departure last summer, as reported by the Sun.

While Lampard has shown interest in the position, it remains uncertain if he's inclined towards a move abroad.

Despite ending his playing career in North America with MLS side New York City, Lampard's intentions are yet to be confirmed.

Lampard was spotted at England's training camp last month alongside former assistant and ex-Millwall boss Joe Edwards. Their presence sparked speculation of an imminent return to football.

The ex-Chelsea manager recently expressed his desire to return to the game, stating, "I’m keen to get working again but as I reiterate, I’m enjoying family life. It’s an intense job so when you’re out of it, it’s nice to appreciate being around all my children."

Regarding his managerial experiences, Lampard remarked, "You love the job. You understand the rigours of it in the modern day.

“I’ve enjoyed all the clubs I’ve worked with. They’ve all been big challenges for different reasons. I enjoy working with players, improving players and the team, so let’s see what comes."
