Manchester City’s Erling Haaland defies explanation and logic, and lately, he’s been defying records as well.

Haaland defying critics to set Premier League records

After a storming first season with the Cityzen’s Haaland has demystified the Bundesliga tax agenda by setting the Premier League record books alight and replacing them with a single sheet of paper featuring his name as a header and countless EPL records as subtext.

After his brilliant display against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg, Haaland reached another milestone with Manchester City after hitting a goal and assist to reach 51 direct goal involvements in his debut season and send them within reason of a third UCL semifinal in three seasons.

Haaland targeting van Nistelrooy records

Haaland seemed eager to hunt down records by former Manchester United icon Ruud van Nistelrooy, and this new milestone reached against Bayern Munich was previously held by the Dutch marksman, with Haaland breathing down his neck for another.

Haaland’s goal on 77 minutes was his 11th in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign, with only van Nistelrooy’s registering more UCL goals for an English club in one season with 12 goals for Manchester United in the 2002/23 campaign 20 years ago.

Haaland might yet equal the former Red Devils’ record as he still has between one and four more games to play in the competition, but there is another milestone of van Nistelrooy’s that he has already eclipsed another of the Dutchman’s records with his goal on Tuesday night.

Haaland’s goal to seal his first career victory over Bayern Munich was his 45th in all competitions, thus outscoring van Nistelrooy to become the Premier League player with the most goals in all competitions in a single campaign.

The record also dates back to the 2002/03 season when van Nistelrooy scored 44 goals in all competitions, which has now been surpassed by the Norwegian striker.
