Former Real Madrid star, Sergio Ramos has welcomed his teammate at the Los Blancos Keylor Navas to the Liga MX.

Navas is officially a Pumas player and the Costa Rican legend could make his Liga MX debut as early as today, when the club hosts Querétaro in Matchday 3 of the Apertura 2025 season.

What Ramos said

His arrival has created major buzz across the footballing world, especially from former teammates, most notably Sergio Ramos, now playing for Monterrey.

Ramos, who played alongside Navas at Real Madrid from 2014 to 2019, posted a warm message to his old friend on social media after the announcement.

He said, "Even if we’re rivals now, I’m really happy to have you here. Welcome and pura vida, brother!"

During his presentation, Navas revealed that Ramos played a key role in convincing him to make the move to Mexico.

"Sergio told me a bit about his experience in Mexican football. Players like James Rodríguez have come here, and the level of the league is growing a lot,"Navas said.

The veteran shot-stopper also credited his national team manager, Miguel Herrera, for backing the move.

He added, “‘El Piojo' also told me he knows the league well, and that I was definitely joining a big club. He shared a bit with me, and having him with the national team helped me make this decision."

Navas becomes the latest in a wave of high-profile stars to arrive in Liga MX, following players like James Rodríguez and Ramos himself.

All three shared the dressing room at Real Madrid, where they contributed to a golden era for the Spanish giants, winning a combined eight major titles, including two UEFA Champions League trophies and a La Liga crown.
