The announcement from read: "Chelsea FC can today confirm that highly decorated Chelsea Women’s manager Emma Hayes OBE will depart the club at the end of the season to pursue a new opportunity outside of the WSL and club football."

This means her 11-year association with the club will come to an end at the end of this current season, leaving many to wonder why that decision was made in the first place as the announcement came out of the blue.

Here are three reasons Emma Hayes is leaving Chelsea, calling time on her incredibly successful stint at the club.

3 reasons Emma Hayes is leaving Chelsea

1. Emma Hayes has won it all

Since joining Chelsea women in 2012, Emma Hayes has gone on to establish herself as the best female coach in the history of the club and one of the very best in the world.

She led the club to six FA WSL titles, five Women’s FA Cups, two FA Women’s League Cups, one FA Women’s Spring Series trophy and one FA Women’s Community Shield.

Emma guided the team to an historic double on two occasions and achieved one domestic treble with the UEFA Women's Champions League the only trophy missing from her resume.

On a personal note, she has been named FA WSL Manager of the Season on six occasions and LMA WSL Manager of the Season five times.

She was inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame in 2021 and also awarded an MBE in 2016 and an OBE in 2021.

It's safe to say that Emma Hayes has conquered English football and is now in search of a new adventure which is why she's leaving.

2. Emma Hayes is moving on to bigger things

Reports suggests that Emma Hayes has agreed to take charge of the United States Women's National Team job and that is the main motivation for her leaving Chelsea.

The announcement of her exit by Chelsea stated that Emma Hayes is leaving to "pursue a new opportunity outside of the WSL and club football."

Which all but confirmed the rumours about Hayes becoming the next coach of the USWNT as they fit the bill of the description, outside club football.

The USWNT have been in the market for a new head coach since August, when Vlatko Andonovski stepped down and it seems that  search is finally over with Emma Hayes.

US Soccer will reportedly make Hayes the highest-paid women's soccer coach in the world which is some pretty big motivation.

3. Emma Hayes is set to make more money

Beyond the football allure of coaching the United States Women's National Team and restoring them to the top of their game, Emma Hayes also has a financial motivation for leaving Chelsea.

Reports have it that Emma Hayes will become the highest-paid female coach in the world when she leaves Chelsea for the United States in 2024.

Chelsea are not requesting compensation from Emma Hayes in return for her completing the season on an exclusive basis.

The exact details of her financials have not been released yet and may never be public information but if the reports are to be trusted, then money is one of the reasons Emma Hayes is leaving Chelsea.
