Edith Agoye praise team as Sunshine Stars secure Federation Cup Round of 32 slot

Sunshine Stars were one of the NPFL sides that succeeded in securing their places in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

Head coach of Sunshine Stars Edith Agoye has praised his side following their Federation Cup Round of 64 win over Nigeria League One (NLO) side Basira FC.

Agoye's side put up a dominant display as two goals in the first 30 minutes of the encounter, were all they needed to secure a spot in the last 32.

The NPFL side who have faced a torrid time in their league campaign - although winning their last fixture during the weekend, started the afternoon at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja on a good note, with David Onovo scoring their first in the 11th minute.

Yusuf Ibrahim then doubled the lead just three minutes to the half-hour, converting a penalty after Vincent Temitope was fouled in Basira's 18-yard box.

The second half, then saw the Nasarawa club limit Sunshine Stars' ability to create any more clear-cut chances, as they themselves, pushed for a consolation that never came.

At the conclusion of the game, Edith Agoye addressed the media and praised both her team's players for a job well done and the opposition for a fierce battle.

"Basira FC are no pushovers, they played well and they gave a good fight no doubt, but the better side won," the Sunshine Stars boss said at full-time.

Sunshine Stars will now turn their attention back to the NPFL as a visit to Bayelsa United on Sunday, await them at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa.

They would return to cup action again, next week, when after draws have been held for Wednesday, May 5th's Round of 32.
