The 37-year-old suffered an ankle sprain in the final of the Copa America. Messi was in tears after he had to be substituted in the second-half of the final. The AFA doctors immediately placed a cast on the leg, and after further tests, it was confirmed that he would be out of action for more than a month.

Inter Miami have had to survive without their talisman and have managed to stay at the top of the MLS standings.

He has missed five weeks due to an injury to his ankle. His recovery has gone at the anticipated pace, as Inter Miami's manager Tata Martino projected Messi's return to be before the end of the regular season.

Meanwhile, a recent report showed what Messi turned down to join the Herons. Pulse Sports reported that Messi could have been one of the highest-paid players in history had he accepted Al-Hilal’s approach instead of joining the David Beckham co-owned side.

He was reportedly offered a weekly salary in the region of €15-20 million. If bonuses are factored in, the offer is believed to have set him up to take in up to €1 billion annually.
