Dani Alves wins sexual assault appeal with Spanish court overturning ruling
Last year, Alves was accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman on the night at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.
The Brazilian was then sentenced to four years of imprisonment after being found guilty of sexual assault in February 2024.
Following his sentence, he was also ordered to compensate the victim with a payment of $163,000 (€150,000).
Alves wins appeal
Alves has taken a step further in becoming a free man after the Spanish court ruled in favour of the Brazilian after following his appeal.
According to Sky Sports, “Former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has won his appeal against a sexual assault conviction after a Spanish court overturned the ruling today that Alves was found guilty in February 2024, raping a woman in a nightclub in December 2022 and sentenced to four years, six months in prison.
“He denied wrongdoing during the three-day trial. The 41-year-old was released from prison in March 2024 while waiting for his appeal to be heard by a higher court. That court ruled today that there was insufficient evidence to rule out Alves's presumption of innocence.”
