Champions League, FA Cup, League not the biggest - Arne Slot prioritises attractive football over trophies
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has outlined a bold long-term philosophy for the club, insisting that playing attractive, entertaining football is a greater achievement than winning major trophies.
What Slot said
Speaking on The Reds Roundtable podcast, the Dutch tactician explained that his ultimate ambition is to build a Liverpool side admired for its style of play, even above silverware.
“As a manager, you can win the league, the Champions League, the FA Cup or the League Cup, but the biggest thing you can win is that you can play the nicest football to watch,” Slot said.
He added, “Although at this moment in time, fans might argue a little bit, it is absolutely something that I am aiming for.”
Slot stressed his desire for an intense, possession-based style that excites supporters at Anfield.
“I always want to have the ball, I want it to be intense, and I want the fans to like what they see,” he added.
The Liverpool boss also admitted he understands the frustration among fans, particularly during a season marked by inconsistent performances.
“Not all of our fans see it as a joy to watch and the hardest thing is that I even understand and agree with them. Trophies are one thing, but being a team, a club or a manager that stands for good football is, in the long term, worth even more,” Slot said.
Slot, who guided Liverpool to Premier League glory in his debut campaign, has faced growing scrutiny in his second season as the Reds struggle for consistency and sit outside the top four.
