With the much-anticipated clash set for June 29th, the Queens’ performance signals that Nigeria’s dominance in West African women’s football will be fiercely contested this time.

Black Queens in Comeback Win

The Black Queens started brightly, with Nina Norshie scoring a stylish back-flick goal just four minutes into the match to give them a deserved lead. 

However, Benin responded quickly, equalising in the 11th minute and then taking the lead with a penalty in the 32nd minute, going into halftime ahead 2-1.

Coach Kim Lars’ halftime talk proved decisive, as the Ghanaian Queens regrouped and dominated the second half. 

The Queens netted three unanswered goals after the break, showing their attacking flair and tactical discipline to seal a morale-boosting 4-2 win.

Super Falcons face tough test ahead of WAFCON

This result puts Ghana in a confident mood as they prepare to face arch-rivals Nigeria, who recently held Portugal to a draw in their own pre-tournament friendly. 

Nigeria’s Super Falcons braced fatigue to survive a scare from the world number 22 ranked Portugal, needing Chiamaka Nnadozie’s safest hands to earn a share of the spoils.

Both the Falcons and the Queens are fine-tuning their squads for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
