The assertion comes following City's impressive 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace, bolstering their bid for the Premier League title.

Cole, a former Chelsea player, was particularly taken aback by the performance of one player in particular as City clinched all three points.

Speaking on TNT Sports, as reported by Daily Mail, Cole said, "I think he sits above everyone. I really do. And I include Frank, and Scholesy and Stevie and everyone."

De Bruyne's stellar display included two goals, with his equalizer standing out as particularly sublime. Cole continued his praise, emphasizing De Bruyne's dominance in the current era of football.

"I think he's moving up and they are great players of their time...but he's certainly the best of this era and he's just outstanding."

Cole analysed De Bruyne's performance against Palace, he couldn't help but be amazed by his opening goal, calling it "beautiful."

"The quality it takes to hit it coming across with your weak foot...It's beautiful. I mean, he is the godfather of attacking midfielders in world football."
