Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer criticises Barcelona's public statements about Joshua Kimmich.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has hit out at Barcelona for openly speaking about their interest in Joshua Kimmich.

The Blaugrana are famously in the market for a high-quality pivot following the exit of Sergio Busquets, and the Germany international's name has come up.

When asked, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez did not hide his desire for Kimmich, suggesting the LALIGA champions will make a move if the player is willing. This has angered the leadership of the Bavarian club.

What Hainer said

The Bayern president expressed strong criticism of Barcelona's pursuit of their player when speaking to Sky Sports, as reported by Relevo

He said he respects Xavi as he was a phenomenal footballer and Barcelona as an institution, but disapproves of them openly speaking about interest in a Bayern Munich player.

He stated that Kimmich was important to them and a leader in the squad; hence, he will remain with the Bavarian outfit for many years, halting any talks of a possible transfer.

"First of all, Xavi was an excellent player and I have great respect for him and for Barcelona,” he started.

“But I don't understand why they are flirting openly and offensively with our player. Joshua Kimmich is an absolute cornerstone for us. Joshua is a leader; he has won many titles with us and will continue to do so in the future as well.

“He is firmly in our plans and is one of the players around which to build the team.”
