The Blaugrana completely dismantled Chelsea on their way to yet another Champions League final
Barcelona Femeni have stormed into the UEFA Women’s Champions League final for the fifth consecutive year, overpowering Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge in the semi-final second leg on Sunday. The dominant performance sealed an 8-2 aggregate victory, reaffirming Barcelona's place at the very top of European women’s football.
Bonmati shines as Barcelona tear through Chelsea’s defense
From the opening whistle, Barcelona made it clear they were not in London just to defend their first-leg advantage, they came to dominate.
Aitana Bonmati, always the big-game player, set the tone with a stunning long-range goal that evoked memories of her heroics at Stamford Bridge just last year.
As Chelsea scrambled to respond, Barcelona piled on the pressure with Ewa Pajor, Claudia Pina, and Salma Paralluelo each finding the back of the net to give the Blaugrana a comfortable 4-0 lead on the night.
Chelsea’s only consolation came through a late strike from Wieke Kaptein, but it barely made a dent in the overwhelming humiliation for the Blues.
Despite a few heroic saves by Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton, the English side were simply no match for Barcelona, losing 8-2 on aggregate.
Barcelona set for historic fifth final appearance
This win over Chelsea not only booked Barcelona a trip to Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade for the final but also extended an extraordinary run of five consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League finals.
The Blaugrana could also create more European history with Barcelona’s male side also in contention to reach the final of the Champions League
Should the Barcelona men defeat Inter in the Champions League semifinal, they will become the third Blaugrana team to reach a European final this season joining the Femeni side and the U19 side, which has also booked a place in the final of the UEFA Youth League.
Now, Barcelona Femeni eagerly await the winner of the other semi-final clash between Lyon and Arsenal as they prepare to chase yet another European crown.
