Why Ansu Fati Barcelona’s heir to Lionel Messi has moved to Brighton

Spain forward Ansu Fati has completed a sensational move from La Liga giants Barcelona to Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

When Fati's agent, Jorge Mendes, reportedly floated the idea of him leaving in June, the player reportedly stated without hesitation that he wanted to thrive at Barcelona.

But in fewer than three months, a lot changed as he did not start any of the first three La Liga games.

De Zerbi convinces Ansu Fati to move from Barcelona to Brighton

The Athletic reported that Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi called Fati and gave him a comprehensive explanation of his footballing philosophy and his role.

A statement on Brighton's website by De Zerbi about Fati's arrival said, “This is a great deal for all of us.

"I am sure Ansu will help us to reach a new target and we can help him get back at the level he deserves to be.”

Given that Brighton has Kaoru Mitoma on the left side of the attack, it would be challenging to fit him there, but Fati can play more centrally straight away.

He was granted Barcelona's No. 10 jersey two years after making his club debut, filling the void left by Lionel Messi's departure.

Fati has made a surprising season-long switch from the Blaugrana to the Seagulls, where the youthful forward will try to restore his reputation on England's south coast.

Ansu will return to Barcelona once his loan at the Amex finishes next summer since he is bound to the club through 2027 and Brighton does not have the option to purchase him.
