It's been a start to the season to forget for Atlético Madrid, the worst of the Diego Simeone era. The team drew 1-1 with Alavés, following a similar result against Elche and a 2-1 loss to Espanyol.

On Saturday, Giuliano Simeone, the coach's son, gave the Madrid side an early lead in the 7th minute, setting the stage for what could have been an efficient performance.

Instead, a penalty was conceded by Sorloth for a foul on Tenaglia, and Carlos Vicente deceived Oblak from the spot to level the score in the 15th minute.

In a match that lasted a remarkable 108 minutes, Antoine Griezmann hit the post in the 77th minute, but the draw held, confirming a historically poor record: it's Atlético's worst start to a LaLiga season since 2009/10, when then-coach Abel Resino managed only one point from the first three matches.

What Oblak said

After the match, goalkeeper Jan Oblak took responsibility for the poor results: "We can talk about playing better or worse or whatever, but we didn't get the three points, and we should have. It's our fault. Because the ball isn't going in for us, and it is for them. We should have done better. Two points in three games… there's not much more to say.

"When things aren't going well, you get worried. This isn't what we wanted. It's two points and a bad taste in our mouths, one of anger. It's unbelievable what's happening to us and, as I said, we should have more points. It's our fault. The points aren't there, and that's bad for us," he told Movistar.

Meanwhile, coach Diego Simeone asked the 'Colchoneros' fans to trust the players and assured them that the team will do better than it is doing.

He said, "Alavés defended well at the end, with a lot of effort, and we didn't have enough quality to win a game that was going our way. I'm concerned about the points. First, we have to improve as a team, and as a result, we will earn points."
