Alex Iwobi, nephew of Jay Jay Okocha, reveals his preference for scoring a last-minute winner in the AFCON final for Nigeria over a Premier League hat-trick for Fulham in a recent Capital Xtra podcast.

Fulham and Nigeria Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has emphatically declared his preference for national team glory over club success when asked a compelling question about his football ambitions. 

The 28-year-old midfielder, who is also the nephew of Nigerian football legend Jay Jay Okocha, has been enjoying the best season of his career at Fulham, closing in on double figures for goals and assists in the Premier League.

Despite his growing club success, Iwobi reinforced his deep commitment to the Super Eagles and the pride he takes in representing Nigeria on the biggest stages.

Speaking as a guest on Capital Xtra’s podcast, Iwobi was asked whether he would rather score a last-minute winner in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final for Nigeria or net a hat-trick for Fulham in a Premier League derby.

Without hesitation, Iwobi chose the national team moment. “I am gonna go AFCON winner because the hattrick I don’t know if we won the game,” he explained, highlighting the unique significance of winning a major continental trophy for his country.

Iwobi’s focus on AFCON success comes after Nigeria’s heartbreaking loss in the recent tournament final, a defeat that has fueled his determination to help the Super Eagles claim continental glory.
