Musa addressed the media during a friendly match he organised, clearly stating, "I only took a brief break from the national team. I have not retired."

Recent Absence

The former Leicester City player has not featured for the Super Eagles since January 2024.

He didn’t play any of the three-time African champions’ seven games on their way to a silver medal feat in Cote D’Ivoire.

The former Kano Pillars player, was not part of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic, which gave some indications that he might be off the team’s radar.

While Musa's exact reasons for stepping back are unknown, his lack of club affiliation since February 2024 after leaving Sivasspor might be a contributing factor.

Despite the recent break, Musa remains the Super Eagles' all-time World Cup top scorer with a remarkable four goals.
