Flying Eagles to head to South America, as FIFA announce nemesis Argentina as U-20 World Cup hosts

Indonesia had been stripped of hosting rights in March, following the refusal of Israel's participation in the tournament.

Nigeria's Flying Eagles will now head to Argentina for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup following the stripping of the original tournament host, Indonesia.

Indonesia had been stripped of hosting rights in March, following protests, as well as the Governor of Bali - a prominent province in the country - refusing the participation of Israel in the tournament.

Now, a new decision have been made known by FIFA President Gianni Infantino after a bid by the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) and the completion of an on-site inspection by a FIFA delegation last week.

“FIFA is delighted to announce that this year's edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup will take place in Argentina, as the home of the world champions opens its doors to tomorrow’s superstars of world football,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“I would like to thank the AFA and particularly its President Claudio Tapia, as well as the governmental authorities, for their commitment to hosting this magnificent event at such short notice.

“The U-20 World Cup plays a key role in FIFA’s efforts to promote youth football across the world.

Nigeria's Flying Eagles: having finished in third place at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, will now head to the South American nation to compete in the tournament from May 20 to June 11, 2023.

With a new host now confirmed, the official draw of the U-20 World Cup will finally take place on Friday, April 21 at the home of FIFA in Zurich. The 24-team tournament will feature six groups of four teams.
